The Knotwork Book is a project started in 2001. Roughly two chapters were completed at that time and another two outlined. From that point the plan was to shop it around and see if there were publishers interested in it. Time constraints kept that next step from taking place. But hope still remains. With the renewed effort to devote more time to knotwork Ben intends to resume work on the book as soon as the Megabird is complete.

Plans for the Knotwork Book have changed some in scope at this point. Originally planned as a ‘how-to’ guide to drawing knotwork, it will now also be a companion to the Megabird print. The book will examine in detail all of the patterns contained in the piece, delving into their construction and exploring potential variations.

The four pages you see here are from a section on the construction of the basic four-strand knot. This chapter in the revised book will stay much the same, showing the standard four-strand form and many variations. It will then go on to show how it was used in the Megabird.

Because Ben is one of the few Knotwork artists out there creating new and original patterns he can offer fresh insight into the more freestyle approach to knotwork. This information will be extremely valuable to people designing their own creations.
